Selective Deconstruction

A demolition method in which building materials are separated by type for maximum recycling and recovery value.

Selective deconstruction systematically separates different material fractions during the demolition process for maximum recycling. The sequence is hazardous material removal, gutting, then structural dismantling with separation of concrete, steel, and masonry. Though more labor-intensive, it achieves significantly higher recycling rates.
