Hazardous-material remediation

Removing KMF & old mineral wool in Berlin

Old glass or stone wool in your roof, façade or suspended ceiling? Man-made mineral fibres (KMF) installed before 2000 are classified as suspected carcinogens and must not simply be removed. We remove KMF in Berlin safely – with protective measures, low-dust packaging and proper disposal as hazardous waste.

How we remove KMF safely

1

Assessment

We check the material and installation year – old mineral wool (pre-2000) is classified as a suspected carcinogen.

2

Protective measures

Containment, protective clothing and extraction prevent fibres from being released.

3

Removal & extraction

Controlled removal of the insulation with industrial vacuums and low-dust packaging.

4

Disposal with proof

Proper disposal as hazardous waste including complete documentation.

Common questions about KMF

What is KMF and why is it dangerous?

KMF stands for man-made mineral fibres – glass and stone wool. Old insulation installed before the year 2000 often contains respirable fibres classified as suspected carcinogens. These fibres are released during removal – which is why it belongs in expert hands.

May I remove old mineral wool myself?

For larger quantities or commercial settings this is not permitted. Old KMF must be removed with protective measures under the Hazardous Substances Ordinance and disposed of as hazardous waste. We handle this safely and with disposal documentation.

How do I recognise dangerous mineral wool?

Rule of thumb: insulation from before 2000 is critical, newer material (with the RAL quality mark) is considered safe. If in doubt, we assess the material on-site – free and non-binding.
