What Does Excavated Soil Disposal Cost?
Disposing of excavated soil costs between 5 and 150 euros per ton, depending on contamination. Clean soil can be handed over for 5–15 €/t, while contaminated material sent to landfill quickly costs ten times as much. Only a laboratory analysis determines which price applies.
As a rule of thumb, 1 m³ of excavated soil weighs about 1.5 to 1.8 tons.

Classification
Before disposal, a declaration analysis assigns the material to LAGA classes (Z0–Z2), to material classes under the German Substitute Building Materials Ordinance, or to landfill classes under the Landfill Ordinance. Testing costs 150–600 € per sample and is unavoidable – no reputable facility accepts undeclared soil.
Topsoil Is Legally Protected
Topsoil must be preserved in usable condition under section 202 of the German Federal Building Code. It should be stripped and stockpiled separately, kept in piles no higher than about 2 m, and reused on site wherever possible. Clean surplus topsoil is often accepted free of charge by landscapers and farmers.
Reducing Disposal Costs
Test early, keep topsoil separate, never mix contaminated with clean material, plan a cut-and-fill balance, keep stockpiles covered, and choose short haulage routes.
