School Building Demolition Pankow
Demolition of a dilapidated Gründerzeit-era brick school building in Pankow to prepare for a modern new school building.
Challenge
The 100-year-old school building contained asbestos floor coverings and PCB-contaminated joints. Demolition had to be completed during the summer holidays, as the neighbouring school remained in operation. There was also a tight inner-city location with directly adjacent residential buildings.
Solution
Prior hazardous-material remediation according to TRGS 519 (asbestos) and removal of PCB joints. Then controlled demolition with a long-reach excavator and sorting grab. Continuous dust and noise protection and daily cleaning protected residents and school operations.
Result
Demolition completed on schedule within the summer holidays in 9 weeks. 90% recycling rate. The site was handed over on time for the new school building.
