Asbestos
A naturally occurring mineral fiber used as a building material until the 1990s, hazardous to health when fibers are released.
Asbestos is a group of naturally occurring silicate minerals with a fibrous structure, widely used in construction until its ban in Germany in 1993. Inhalation of asbestos fibers can cause severe diseases such as asbestosis and lung cancer. A hazardous materials survey is legally required before any demolition or renovation work on older buildings.
