How a full remediation runs
Clearance testing
An independent accredited laboratory measures the airborne fibre concentration. The area
is released only when the limit of 500 fibres per cubic metre is met. You receive the
release record and the disposal documentation, both of which you need when selling,
letting or applying for funding.
Who carries the duty
The client or owner is responsible, not the tradesperson who happens to find it. Anyone
converting or demolishing a building predating the German asbestos ban of 1993 must
establish beforehand whether asbestos-containing materials are present. The same
principle applies to mineral wool installed before 1996 under TRGS 521.
Together with demolition or gutting
For buildings predating 1993 remediation is almost always the first step rather than an
extra: hazardous materials have to come out before

What does asbestos remediation cost?
Costs depend on the type (firmly or loosely bound) and quantity of asbestos and the containment effort. Firmly bound asbestos cement boards are cheaper to remove than loosely bound sprayed asbestos. You receive a transparent fixed-price quote after an inspection.
What is the difference between firmly and loosely bound asbestos?
Firmly bound asbestos (e.g. asbestos cement) holds the fibres in a hard matrix. The risk arises mainly when breaking or drilling. Loosely bound asbestos (sprayed asbestos, insulation) releases fibres under slight stress and is far more dangerous; remediation requires a sealed containment zone.
Is asbestos remediation mandatory?
Yes. Before demolition or renovation of a building constructed before 1993, asbestos must be surveyed and any asbestos found must be professionally remediated per TRGS 519 before work continues.
How long does asbestos remediation take?
Small-scale works such as individual cement sheets are often done in a day. A full remediation inside a sealed enclosure takes several days to weeks, because sealing, negative pressure, fine cleaning and independent clearance testing are added.
Do you also remediate mineral fibres (KMF)?
Yes. Besides asbestos, we also remove and dispose of man-made mineral fibres (KMF) such as old glass and rock wool insulation installed until 2000. Asbestos and KMF often occur together, so we remediate both in one go.
