Waste Disposal Documentation in Berlin
In Germany, demolition and remediation projects require comprehensive documentation of waste disposal. The Entsorgungsnachweis (disposal certificate) proves that waste has been properly and environmentally responsibly disposed of, as required by the Kreislaufwirtschaftsgesetz (Circular Economy Act) and the Nachweisverordnung (Verification Ordinance).
Electronic Waste Tracking (eANV)
Since 2011, electronic waste tracking (eANV) has been mandatory for hazardous waste in Germany. The system documents the entire chain from waste generation through transport to final disposal, with all parties signing electronically. The relevant authority in Berlin (Senate Department for the Environment) receives all data automatically for monitoring.
Who Needs It?
Formal disposal certificates are required for generators, transporters, and disposers of hazardous waste. Common hazardous waste from demolition projects includes asbestos, artificial mineral fibers (KMF), tar-containing materials, PCB-containing materials, and contaminated soil.
Penalties
Missing disposal documentation can result in fines up to 50,000 euros. Illegal disposal of hazardous waste is a criminal offense carrying up to five years imprisonment. All documentation must be retained for at least three years.
