Berlin-Type Shoring
The most common excavation support method: vertical steel beams with horizontal timber lagging, suitable for soils above the groundwater table.
Berlin-type shoring is the most common method for securing excavation pits in urban areas. Developed during the construction of the Berlin subway, it consists of vertical steel beams driven into the ground at regular intervals with horizontal timber or steel lagging inserted as excavation proceeds. Deeper pits are braced or anchored. It is ideal for soils above the groundwater table and is the standard method in Berlin's sandy ground.
